MAFGA sorted out the steps you will need to take when changing apartments.
Please go through the following if you plan to do so.

1. Informally tell the willingness to move the apartments to BOE
Board of Education would kindly like to ask you to let them know that 
you might move out the current apartment, when you start planning.
Since BOE have to make arrangements for the coming ALTs, your 
cooperation is appreciated.
(There is no such format for this, so you can tell them by email or when 
you meet at school/office.)

2. Find the apartment to move
You will find the apartment to move at the real estate company.
In most cases, you will need a guarantor to make a contract(MAFGA cannot 
be your guarantor).
Also, it is likely that you have to pay the penalty if you quit the 
contract in less than one year.
MAFGA is able to answer questions you have regarding this, at our 
stationing hours or in our office (at MAFGA), but is not able to 
accompany you to the real estate company.

3. File a documentation to the BOE (two month prior)
As mentioned in the ALT meeting, the tenants have to file a 
documentation two month prior the check out date(check out date is the 
day you return the keys).
For example, you have to notify by April 15, if you are checking out on 
June 15.
The rent for the final month will NOT be prorated, so, it may be 
cost-saving to change apartments at the end of the month.
(Generally, the rent for the first month will be prorated in Japan.)

4. Consult MAFGA if you need support for moving/changing contracts
If you need support to open/close the utilities, or change the address 
registered at the city hall, you may ask MAFGA for help.
If you need someone to move your items, MAFGA cannot physically help the 
moving, but can help you book the moving company.

5. Checking out
At the checking out, BOE/MAFGA staff or the landlord will attend.
You cannot leave any of your belongings when you leave.

6. Changing address/registered commuting route at school
You will need to change the address/registered commuting route at school.
Please ask school office staff for the instructions.
