MINOH JET-ALT UPDATES (October 1, 2022)



This correspondence is issued by MAFGA JET-Support Team periodically to
update on the JET program and the community information in Minoh City.  Your
comment on this e-mail magazine is always welcome.



1. Prepare for Winter with a Flu-Shot

While many people are already vaccinated for COVID-19, it is now the time
for a flu-shot to better prepare for winter against influenza.  Local
clinics familiar to Minoh JETs, such as Sakamoto Clinic at Q’s Mall and
Yokoi Clinic and in Nishishoji, started flu-shot service already with
3,500yen fee and no need for appointment.



2. Join Upcoming Events to Know Community & Culture

After a few year suspension due to pandemic of COVID-19, autumn festivals
and community events in Minoh are back to be held as normal.  Here is a list
of events which you may go and take a look.



A) The Minoh Festival Weekend on October 1-2

The Minoh Festival is back after 3 years. While the annual event was held in
mid-summer like late-July before, it is to be held on the first weekend of
October this year to avoid extreme hot weather.  The festival venue is
mainly the Ashihara Park area which is the backyard of the Minoh Central
Library. At the main stage there will be various music and dance
performances by local school/community groups on both days from 1pm to 8pm.
You can try a variety of food stands and even a Japanese haunted house
(Obake-Yashikiお化け屋敷). On Sunday, October 2, a festival parade will
start at the City Hall at 2pm and march through the main street to Hankyu
Minoh Station until 5pm. For details of event schedules, visit its web site

B) OTAKARA MATSURI (a treasure festival) in Kayano

This annual community festival in Kayano area will be held on Saturday,
October 29 at Right-Pia (near JET House) with a variety of food stands,
craft workshops and stage performances. You can join the event as a
volunteer or a visitor. For details of event and volunteer information,

C) Join “Multi-Ethnic Festival” by MAFGA on Nov. 12

The biggest annual event for MAFGA is to be held again after 3 years on
Saturday, November 12 in the Onohara area. With 3,000 people participating
in the one-day event, this became popular with a variety of ethnic features.
In this year’s program, an open event for visitors to show off a quick
performance within 3 minutes such as playing ethnic music instrument and
folk dancing are planned. In the past events, many JET people enjoyed music
and dancing from around the world. You can join as a kid’s game planner, a
volunteer or a stage performer on the day. For details, contact MAFGA.



3. Minoh Premium Coupons Available to Apply

To help small businesses, Minoh City is issuing premium coupons which can be
used at 450 stores/restaurants here (listing:

coupons, a) a 5,000yen coupon with a value of 6,000yen (with 1,000yen
premium), and b) a 2,000yen combination coupon with a value of 2,500yen for
merchandize and 1,000yen for taxi fare (with 1,500yen premium).  The coupon
a) is a booklet of twelve 500yen tickets, and the coupon b) is a booklet of
five 500yen tickets and two 500yen taxi tickets.  To get the coupons, you

regular coupons and a combination coupon. If there are more applications
than the coupons to be issued, there will be a draw. The winners will be
notified on Nov. 1 by a postcard which is a voucher to buy coupons. The
coupon can be used for shopping and payment during a period between Nov. 1
and Jan. 31.



4. MAFGA Consultation at JET House Stationing Hours

With 27 new JET-ALT members who joined this summer, MAFGA JET Support Team
now serves 70 ALTs in Minoh. With a limited time of MAFGA consultation hours
(5-7pm) on Wednesday and Friday, it is recommended that you make an
appointment of MAFGA prior to the day of consultation. If your schedule does
not allow to come to MAFGA hours at JET House, it is possible to meet online
