MINOH JET-ALT UPDATES (July, 2022)

1. New JETs to Come Soon. Help Wanted!

As the JET Program recruiting gets back to normal this summer, new JET-ALTs
are coming to Minoh soon. Total of 27 new JETs from the U.S., U.K., Ireland,
Canada and New Zealand are arriving in 9 different schedules from the last
week of July through the first week of September. In order to ease their
settlement in Minoh, BOE and MAFGA are looking for volunteers from the
current JET members. While the outline of volunteer work will be posted
soon, you may pencil your schedule to be available for helping them.

2. Enjoy Firefly Illuminations in Minoh

In the rainy season of Japan, natural illuminations by fireflies are
seasonal pastime for people to cool down at night even under humid weather.
Minoh is blessed with abundant viewing spots of fireflies. Some examples
close to you are; Minoh Waterfalls, Ryuanji Temple(瀧安寺)and Minoh Insect
Museum(昆虫館) along the path to the waterfall. The closest spot could be
the Ashwara Park(芦原公園) in the back of the Maple Hall and the Central
Library. You could be healed by green illuminations at hot summer night.
See the attached flier of Minoh firefly spots:

3.Cool Night at Minoh Candle Road 2022

At 4:30pm-9:30pm on Saturday, July 30, some 6,000 candles will be lined
along the path from the Hankyu Minoh Station to the Minoh Fater Falls in a
one-day event named ‘Minoh Candle Road 2022’. You can join as a volunteer
to light the candle (see details at
https://minohkankou.net/news/events/20220526/ ). As the Minoh Park,
including the Minoh Falls and Ryuanji Temple, is light up this summer (July
16 through August 31) from sunset till 9pm everyday, you can enjoy cool
night walk.

4. MAFGA Stationing Schedule in Summer Break

During the summer holidays, MAFGA’s consultation hours will be set in an
irregular schedule. While it is normally 5-7pm on Wed./Fri. of the week,
consultation hours on Wed., Aug. 10 and Fri., Aug. 12 will be 2-4pm. See the
attached stationing calendar.

5. Discuss Diversity and Join a Skit in Japanese

MAFGA is now running a series of workshops to think about diversity in
Japanese society. The event is called ‘Forum Theater’ which is a kind of
roll-playing workshop for people to experience a situation in which Japanese
and foreign citizens face some problems and interact to solve it. The
workshop is mostly a discussion to produce a short skit to present the value
of diversity. While it is run in Japanese, it would be good to challenge
your Japanese competence. See the attached flyer for details and schedules,
and contact MAFGA for joining.
